STEAM WRECKING CRANE DEMO AT NEVADA RAILWAY SYMPOSIUM

Fri., Sept. 21, 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Nevada Northern Railway will be pulling out its Steam Wrecking Crane for a demonstration during the 41st Annual Nevada Railway Symposium.

The 1907 Steam Wrecking Crane, weighing approximately 200 tons, will be fired up Fri. morning at 10:30 a.m. It will be a rare opportunity to see what is believed to be the only operating steam wrecking crane in the country – fired up in its original location.

The demonstration will take place on Fri., Sept. 21 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The demonstration is part of the Symposium, Sept. 20-23, at the East Ely Depot. The demonstration is included as part of a variety of activities and speakers during the three-day convention; which celebrates 145 years of railroading history in the state of Nevada.

The crane was used years ago to put derailed locomotives and trains back on track. For more details on the Symposium, and to register online, visit www.nvrys.com.

The Nevada Northern Railway Museum is a National Historic Landmark, established in 1905; and features approximately 60 acres of original, authentic grounds, track and buildings, and an extensive paper record. The Smithsonian Curator Emeritus considers it to be the best preserved historic railroad “bar none.” It has received worldwide recognition, including several episodes on History’s “American Restorations” and on PBS. It was featured on the July/Aug. cover of Nevada Magazine (www.nevadamagazine.com), in which it was voted “ Best Place to Take Children” for six years in a row. In a poll by the Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT), Nevada Northern Railway was voted one of six favorite treasures in Nevada (www.travelnevada.com/discover). Nevada Travel Network awarded it the “2012 Attraction of the Year.” And, says Jim Wrinn, Editor, Trains Magazine, “A place that everyone should go visit... like stepping back in time 100 years ago!"
