The kit is well packaged in a cardboard box with plenty of styrofoam peanuts and bubble wrap to protect the five main parts and bag of secondary parts.
The parts are cast in cream colored resin. Textures are very well represented and include wood, brick and shingles. The side walls, door and window frames have detail on both sides, but the roof, facade and overhang are cast in open molds so there is no detail on the back sides. This also results in uneven amounts of excess resin which will complicate clean up. Sanding down the correct amount at one side will result in the opposite side being too thin. Warpage is very minimal on the major parts, but several of the longer small castings have significant warping on the long axis.
There are no instructions, which is okay for the main parts, but it leaves one in the dark about the handful of secondary parts whose function is totally unclear. Are they end pieces for the façade or are they the bars for the side windows? If the shorter pieces are the bars, there are far too few and the builder might as well simply get some styrene, brass or aluminum rod to provide these. There is neither hardware for the door nor glazing for the windows. There is no back wall and no interior. There is the option of labeling the building either “Sheriff” or “Jail” with the included signage.
The building is 17.2 cm wide and 14.9 cm deep and 14.2 cm tall at the highest point. This creates a physical space problem for the interior. The side barred windows are too close to the front to allow any reasonable space for an office for the sheriff to use. In my opinion, it would have been better to eliminate the forward side windows completely or have them only on one side wall.
Thanks to VLS for supplying the review sample.
The newest building in the Streets of Laredo line is the Jail/Sheriff’s office. I recently received this for review and provide an in box look at the kit.
