IntroductionFern by NOCH are super realistic miniature fern plants. Laser-Cut minis use laser technology to cut highly detailed models of flowers, reeds, cabbage, nettles, and other plants; colorful, unique shapes, with fine printed details. Whether used for HO layouts or other scenery dioramas, it is easy to create super-realistic flowerbeds, gardens and garden plots for your model landscape. Some are flocked with colored flower petals.
NOCH currently advertises more than two dozen of these sets in three scales: HO (1/87), TT (1/120), and N (1/160). Fern is available in all three scales. Fern are held in their paper while other mini-plants are ready to use. All can be planted right out of the package with a drop of glue.
FernNine ferns are in the box. It took me about nine minutes to remove, shape, plant and photograph these nine plants.
Nine plants are lased into three fibrous papers. The paper is printed with good random plant colors and patterns.
PlantingTo plant the ferns, simply remove them from the paper "frets". Only two leaves are actually attached to the frets, and the connector is easy to pull free. The paper is remarkably strong and none of the nine ferns were damaged by my ham-fisted handling.
I rolled the plants across a pencil to make the leaves and stems droop. I used the pencil or a hobby drill to form the stalks up and over.
NOCH lased a common "root ball" between the stems with a pin hole in the middle. This allows a very simple method of setting the plants into whatever surface you desire.
ScaleNOCH scaled this fern set, 14100, to HO - 1/87. I find these Laser-Cut Minis to be useful for many scales. I show these ferns with other scales, too. From 1/35 to HO - 1/87, military and civil subjects, and an HO railway line. Refer to the photos.
ConclusionNOCH Fern, 14100 Laser-Cut Minis is an excellent product to quickly and easily create a small stand of excellent looking plants. They are suitable for more scales than just HO. It took me about nine minutes to remove, shape, plant and photograph these nine plants.
I have no meaningful criticism of this product and happily recommenced it.
Please remember to mention to NOCH and retailers that you saw these ferns here - on RailRoad Modeling.
