the set
Although this is a first-look review, a full-build of the Trumpeter BR 52 Locomotive using all 4 of Eduard's sets will shortly be available to read as a Feature article.

The set is comprised of 2 frets of Photo etch, one of which is large, measuring eight inches by 5 inches.

The main parts that can be replaced with this set are the two long walkways either side of the engine, along with all their associated brackets etc. Trumpeter obviously supply these as styrene parts, which are a little thick due to the limitations of injection moulding, but they also have a rather large over-scale diamond pattern engraved into them. The Eduard ones are much closer to scale thickness and have the correct herringbone 'Mezzanine' pattern, and are a 100% improvement over the kit parts.

The instructions for replacing these parts run to 3 sides, and along with the walkways you also get an assortment of brackets for things attached to the walkways, which makes the set even more worthwhile.

Be aware when considering purchasing this set that you will probably need some sort of folding tool as the brackets have to be folded along their length, the longest of which is only three inches, but this sort of length can be difficult to fold with pliers or a razor blade on a hard surface.

conclusion
A very worthwhile set indeed, that will improve the overall appearance of your BR 52, the walkways being very visible on the finished model. Highly recommended.

My thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
