There are certain complaints that are regularly levelled at kit and figure manufacturers whenever a new product is released, and that complaint is “why didn’t they supply gun X with this product” or “why is there only 1 of gun X as I wanted two”. Well Dragon have a number of weapons sets on the market which I believed had gone out of production, however they seem to be turning up for sale on a regular basis now which I believe means they are being produced again in limited numbers. In this review I will be taking a look at the Modern Infantry Fire Support Weapons set in 1/35th scale, and while not as modern as once they were they are a handy item to have at your disposal.
Inside the typical end opening box you will find three light grey sprues with two being identical, there is also some construction required with this product with the instructions being on the back of the box.
Have you ever wanted a Mk19 automatic grenade launcher, pump action shotgun or one of the hand held anti tank missile systems? Well this product from Dragon will give you that and some other options as well, just take a look at the pictures in this review. Starting with the quality of the product, in general I would say it is fair despite the age, and some of the detail is a little soft but not overly so.
Problem areas such as flash are surprisingly light but there is some present in certain places with the obvious mould seems needing a clean up, sink marks are none existent as far as I can tell which is another plus in its favour. These are obviously not up to the Gen 2 quality of product from Dragon but are none the less worthy of your consideration. Each of the weapons will need to have the barrel drilled out but otherwise a very limited amount of work will be required to make this product an eye catching addition to your work.
The biggest negative of this product is that the location of some of the moulding nipples may cause problems during cleanup as some encompass rounded detail, so take care when working on these weapons. You get two of each weapon type which should satisfy most in terms of value for money.
With the exception of some resin items hitting the market this is a very good product to get your hands, and when used in conjunction with other sets in the series provides more fire power options than an Arnold Schwarzenegger film. The inclusion of the pump action shotgun, four types of hand fired missiles, and the Mk 19 automatic grenade launcher mark this product out to me as one to purchase.
