In October I reviewed an improved mantlet for the Hungarian SPG Zrinyi II from SBS Model which made a big impression on me with the quality and accuracy. Now, the suspension detail set is also available and since I spent that much time on research during building my model I have to review that one too!
The detail set is made of resin and packed in a small cardboard box. On the top is a photograph with the kit contents and on the back some precautions on working with resin and cyanoacrylate glues are given. Inside you will find an A5 size black and white instruction sheet plus 24 parts zipped in a plastic bag. The set contains enough parts for 1 model of the Zrinyi. Due to the accurate molding the connections to the molding blocks are quite thin guaranteeing easy clean-up.
Part 1 replaces parts C7/C8 and C9/C10 from the Bronco kit. This not only fixes the fit and alignment issue of the original parts but also provides cast metal texture on them as well as accurately replicates the shape and prominent features of the real bogie parts (marked with red on the image from the Kubinka museum). Part 3 (corresponds to C22)and has better detail and overall shape too. Other parts (2 and 4 that replace C27 and C32, respectively) are less visible on the model with mesh screens, but would be a nice addition to models without. Overall, any model of the Zrinyi II would benefit from using the updated resin parts.
This is a great set for modellers interested in accurate detail. I hope that SBS Model will keep bringing quality upgrades for Hungarian armor (I believe we will see more of it from major manufacturers).
