Haven't been around much over the past week things got rather busy in front of the bench . Now this might be a let down towards Richard . It's not Tamiya and it's not a Japanese aircraft , sorry Richard

I remember building this kit as a youngster so it's time to redo another one with a few extras and brush up on my skills . I has been along time since I did a lot of detailing and I try to keep this to my WW 1 modeling and lazy out on the WW 2 with PE and resin . But this is different and is crying out so ....

First step was to remover the exhaust and interior detail

The my attention turn to what to do with the cockpit so I raid the spare part bins for a Hasegawa cockpit and scrap plastic card and rod ...

Terri,
Just an exceptional start to a very oldie but certainly a goodie. I'm pulling up my chair, and will bring my own popcorn since you'll be busy building the Typhoon.

Thanks guys for stopping by and having a peek

Joel , good . Last thing I need is to get buttery finger prints all over the build .

I have made some more progress . The right side panel is almost finished , will have more pic's up soon

Terri -
I don't mind watching this one while I wait for your Hien !
I have very fond memories of these Monogram kits from my boyhood .
I recall asking for one for Christmas and received six of them - my parents ( I mean Santa ) must have thought I was a good lad that year - I'm sure my sister thought otherwise!
Keep them coming - Richard

Thats an incredible start on this classical kit Terri !

The exhausts are not a strong point of this kit and the sparse cockpit as well, your well made and aimed improvements will fix that.
Well done so far !

This build brings a lot of memories from my teenage modelling days.

Thank you Richard and Bernd . Will take a bit of time . My modeling seems to be mostly on the weekends , but as soon as spring is here I will be out doors more . I thinking about cutting out the landing flaps as well and detailing the wheel wells . What would be the point of detailing the cockpit and leaving the rest as is .

Richard , I will be tackling a Hein soon . I'm waiting for decals to come in the mail for Meng's P-51D which I will start when they arrive . Ended up getting one of the Meng's kit for free and I really want to see how she goes together . Then I will start a Hein , but maybe a Hasegawa one with some goodies ....

Terri,

This should be a fun build to watch! I built the Monogram Typhoon as a kid, thought it was the best thing going... but the kit seems so basic looking at it now. Can't wait to see what you do with it!

Hi Terri interesting choice loving it so far. What are you using for the cockpit Terri? As from memory there is very little in the way of an office in this kit.

Thank-you Tim and Chris . For me it is bring back memories when I built this a child and at the time I though it had really nice detail . Not so much more now , but we live in a different time now . Still fun building the oldies , they are much better for detailing , one can get really carried away .

Chris , the cockpit is from the spare box . It is out of a Hasegawa kit which I have resin for . So this is prefect for a starting point . So test fitting it seems to work , but I still have to add the upper detail to the fuselage sides and make sure the lower part will fit .

Haven't given up yet on this one . Been busy adding details and got carried away . Still have the instrument panel , rudder bar , control column , gun sight/mount .

Both side panels are done , front panel , and floor , not my best efforts , but I'm pleased .

Terri,

Wonderful! This kit was so much fun. I was thinking of it just the other day. When I bought it, the family was going out to dinner. I scandalized my brother and sister by building it at the table.

I think this Tiffy was the first model I painted D-Day strips on.

Thanks Fred I remember building at the kitchen table , evening the dinning room table in my younger years , then again I wasn't aloud paint at the time either .

Managed to get a few more bits done . Instrument panel has been mod just a bit . I took me four tries on marking the compass . Still a few smaller bits need to be added but this will be done once the painting is finished .

Control column also got detail added and the rudder bar is basically new with a bit of the kit part used .

Up next will be the gun sight and the switch and lever panels for the other half of the instrument panel .

Terri,
I just read through the whole thread again as honestly I didn't remember the build. Talk about starting to loose one's memory, and mine was rather poor to start with.

Looking forward to when you pick up the build, as you were doing quite a remarkable job with corrections and detailing.

Hi Terri

Ditto what Joel and Fred have said. I'm ashamed to admit that I missed your build on its first outing too, but that cockpit is far too good to sit on the shelf!

All the best
