2. I think the tracks are too loose, using too many track links... Any suggestions?

3. What is the tactical symbol for a sdkfz 251/9 from a panzer division? armored car company or infantry?

Excellent dio! Composition is superb and the story is immediately made known.
You could make a point that the frozen ground would not show tread marks and the tactical symbols were painted over with the whitewash in winter.
These types of tracks were found in the heavy support company of the armored Infantry Bn of a PzGrenRegt. Most Pz Div only had one Bn mounted in halftracks, the rest were in trucks.
There were also some units that had these tracks in the heavy company of the recon Bn of the PzDiv.

Hallo James!
The tactical symbol is on line 4, number 10. Only the caliber in centimeters is indicated. But maybe the previous number 9. These machines are part of the schwarze Kompanie in PanzerGrenadierBatailons (gp.)
Track marks: Use dry pigment with a fixer. I think it's going to be quick and easy.
About diorama: wonderful work, congratulations.

This is a gorgeous diorama. I love the humanity of the extended hand to wave and the cold stare back from the child by the fence. It has a lot of impactful emotion.

I do have a question, how did you achieve such great leaves on the ground? It looks particularly amazing with the snow on top. Everything just looks so lived in and perfect. Nice job.

G’day James wow what a storming diorama, a feast for the eyes – and it would make a perfect companion to Kuba’s “Beehive” dio too if the unit i/d equates. I agree no need to worry about lack of track marks, and I’d say same about the tracks because they actually look like they’re rattling around in motion at low speed – cunning ploy I’m sure intentional really! The only thing I’d question (and happy to be proved wrong) is the greenish kit shades, wouldn’t they be more khaki/beige? Whatever, a superb piece of work & hope to see (much) more. Go the Blues

James , very cool , beautifully built dio !!!
Weathering , vehicles , fence , building , ground , figures , extremely well done and convincing .
Not a big thing and not to disagree with my fellow plastiholics but no matter how frozen the ground is , my first impression was the lack of any ground disturbance behind the vehicles .
This certainly doesn't take away from from your stellar build but did come to mind as a first impression , weather in real life marks would be made on the frozen ground or not .

Thank you Jerry

If the Sdkfz251/9 is from armored Infantry, should I use line 2 number 3?
if it is heavy rec, should I use line 4 number 8?

HI Kalin

By comparing the German Symbol table here.

http://niehorster.org/011_germany/symbols/_symbols_43.html

Is line 4, number 10 for Armored Gun unit?

Is Number 9 for recon unit like number 8? It seems to have a "S"like symbol within the square, I am not sure what it is. I know "St" is for headquarter unit. But not sure what this is.

Going with the new reference it would be on the top right side of the chart on the first line. 7th from the left. To be doubly safe you could go for the symbol of Armored Infantry Plt. on the same line. But the 7th from the left states the 7.5CM cannon(Kanonenwagen) track. The acronym"S" in German means "Schwere" or heavy. While "ST" means "Stab" or HQ. HTH

Outstanding winter scene! As to track marks, I'd have to agree that even on frozen ground, some evidence that the ground was churned would likely be seen, even if it were only a few overturned clods of dirt. The house & groundwork is superb otherwise. Thanks for posting your fine work!

Armored infantry units didn't have Sdkfz 250/9's, but armored recon units did have Sdkfz 251/9 7.5 cm, so I'd go with the recon unit.

Jerry, you're misreading my post. The inf units had Sdkfz 251/9's, but no Sdkfz 250/9's.
