Vladimir Demchenko - Interview with a master

Q: If you could paint or sculpt a figure of any person or character, whom or what would it would be?

A: When I was teenager I saw “Platoon” movie, and it became my favourite film. I can see it over and over. Since those times I dreamed to have figures of Platoon characters of Berenger,Sheen, Dafoe etc. And I can say that BRAVO-6 platoon series is realization of my childhood dreams!:-)

Sometime I`m making my figures with portrait likeness just for humor. For example,Frozen German tanker is portrait of my friend who is a modeller too .And one of Australian SAS is portrait of my brother.

I`m sure that every serious thing must necessarily contain a little part of humor or self- irony.

Q: If you were allowed to paint only one figure for the next year, which one it would be?

A: I think if I am only allowed to paint just one figure for year,I would sculpt and paint a figure of my favourite singer Brian Setzer.

Q: Your figure modelling “no no’s” , what are the things you never do on your figure modellings or what are the things that should never be done on figure modelling?

A: My own “no no`s”? I hope that I never will be sculpt boring uniformed manequennes -“just simply next figure”,”just simply German”,”just simply tanker” etc. Every figure must be character, little person with own story.

Q: Your figure modelling secret? Remember as you share with us it is not a secret anymore ?

I try to improve my every new figure, analithes previous mistakes, get new tasks, more fresh, more complex, more interesting. And feel myself as “artist”, not like “machine for making figures”.

Historicus Forma thanks for the interview and wishes good luck to BRAVO-6 and Vladimir Demchenko on his carrier.

Terrific read, Vladimirs figures are like a breath of fresh air in the figure modelling world,. if only he could be persuaded to do some British/Commonwealth figures.

Great interview. It's always terrific to get to know a bit more about the folks that bring us all those great figures. Fantastic to see Kitmaker's original Artist Q&A back again Rudi

Excellent interview. Over the years I've seen quite a bit of Vladimir Demchenko's work online and I had often wondered who he was and where his diorama talent came from. Reading his philosophy on sculpting and motivations make viewing his work all the more interesting. Thanks for posting the interview and thank you Vladimir Demchenko for providing us with your insight into your niche of this hobby. Cheers, Charles
